Poor People’s Campaign: Nat’l Emergency Freedom School Bus Tour Kickoff!

April 4, 2019 @ 6:45 pm - 7:30 pm

Join us at the foot of Ferry (West Ferry St., Broderick Park) at the Harriet Tubman Historical Plaque to meet Poor People’s Campaign members from across the state. We’ll spend some time learning about the rich abolitionist history of Buffalo and New York State!

The New York State Poor People’s Campaign will set off on a four-day organizing and political education journey across the Western regions of New York. The National Emergency Freedom School Bus Tour is one of more than two dozen tours nationwide starting in late March with the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival.

In New York, two dozen Campaign leaders representing regions from Syracuse to Buffalo will study and learn together from historical struggles, while deepening our relationships across the state and building collective ways of working. These foundational days of movement building will help us create a new unity of the poor, to construct a collective understanding that will ground our future work.

In communities across our state, we’ll shift the narrative by shifting the narrator, shining a spotlight on the real national emergency in our country today and how it affects New Yorkers. Groups from across New York State will gather on the tour to reflect and strategize with farmworkers, advocates for prison abolition, and others directly impacted by the evils of systemic racism, poverty, environmental destruction and the war economy.
