Nekanehsakt Meeting (in person)
July 14, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
At Armory Park (at Porter Ave/Niagara St), behind the Isaias Gonzalez-Soto Branch Library. Please join Nekanęhsakt: Friends of Ękwehęwę at 6:30 for coalition building meeting focused on the renaming of Columbus Park. The meeting will take place outside ACROSS THE STREET from the statue. If you plan to attend, please bring a mask and practice “social”/physical distancing.
The statue is down and the park will be renamed, which means 2/3 of our demands have been met. The third, consultation of the local Indigenous communities, did not happen. At the meeting we will go over:
- John Kane’s Lets Talk Native show with guest Liz Mariani on the statue coming down https://open.spotify.com/episode/5jttfEpSoafnIOOYlezFYj?si=6iEHrihZTQmubFA36HULOg&fbclid=IwAR1K0Ly0MtK-6d1iwJL6LC50TdQDc4dC1cWtHCNJaydxl4hCgttYG2yt42Q
- Footage of Press conference of Mayor, Italian Association and Council Members https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?v=904523263401632&ref=watch_permalink

We look forward to working together to stop honoring genocide, stolen land, and the many crimes dedicating a park and statue. https://www.change.org/p/change-name-of-columbus-park-remove-statue If you want to sign on and can not attend, please email that with/without a solidarity statement to [email protected]
