Nekanęhsakt: Friends of Ękwehęwę – Mtg & Celebration
July 21 @ 6:30 pm
At Armory Park outside behind the Isaias Gonzalez-Soto Branch Library at the corner of Porter avenue and Niagara street in Buffalo. Please bring a mask and practice physical distance. We want to celebrate our recent victories – including the Columbus statue being removed and the park being renamed; half of Oklahoma being declared Indigenous territory under treaty; and DAPL being outlawed – as well as to build coalition to unite us, our struggles, our visions, and our movement for all the work we have ahead of us.
Other organizations are invited to come make a statement of support. Food is welcome that can be responsibly shared. Many of the victories in this moment below are amazing and still not complete. Indigenous People are still not included in to much of all of society but especially in matters pertaining the themselves, communities, history and land. Many members in our organization never wanted to focus on the statue work for example because the their work had many pressing issues have been more urgent on many topics of health, murdered and missing indigenous women, land reclamation, environmental devastation and more. The work of making sure that the destruction of the natural world comes to end, Native people and children are respected free from mistreatment in which ever community they live, ending health disparities and healing from the trauma of the colonization, land reclamation all across Turtle Island and more. Our work will need continue and expand with as much support as possible so we can work support each other in Black Lives Matter, Climate Change Youth and others please come and celebrate these victories and regroup for what is ahead.
