One year ago: Governor Cuomo, Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins, and Assembly Speaker Heastie struck a back room deal to NOT bring the HALT Solitary Confinement Act to a vote during the 2019 legislative session. A year later, people – predominantly Black people and other People of Color – continue to be locked in solitary confinement for months, years, and decades. In 2019, we know of at least 6 people who were tortured to death in solitary in NY prisons alone. Amidst the largest uprising against racist state violence in a generation, now is the moment for New York State to end this racist and deadly state torture. Please join people across the state to demand a vote on #HALTsolitary now!
