Sixteen year old environmental activist, Greta Thunberg, who sat down, alone, in front of the Swedish Parliament, has sparked a global movement. A little over one year later, more than 7.5 million in over 189 countries have joined her in the #climatestrike, They are striking, marching, speaking out and calling on legislators and citizens to rise up in response to a global climate crisis. Many have joined #fridaysforfuture, and have been inspired to do ongoing actions!
On this month’s Global Days of Listening the APVs will be discussing the challenges all activists face with outreach. How can we, like Greta, catalyze interest, especially with those who are not yet connected, perhaps have only limited access to the internet, are mired in poverty and environmental degradation after decades of war, or know very little about nonviolence, and building a Borderfree community across all cultural groups? How do we collaborate with those seeking “environmental justice,” others working on low-income housing, indigenous rights, etc.? How to we create bridges so all can work together in this critical time?
Please join us, and share your insights about these questions on strategies for broadening our outreach efforts. We look forward to welcoming you to Global Days of Listening.
