Garvey Community Day/ Carlton Co-op Fundraiser

August 17, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm

At 238 Carlton Street (parts of Locust Street will also be blocked off for this event). African Heritage Food Coop will host a community celebration centered around Marcus Garvey; with bounce houses, free food, free haircuts, free backpacks, and community organizations giving out health and wellness information. Since one of Marcus Garvey’s guiding principles was self-sufficiency, this event will also feature dozens of companies looking to hire or train local residents. Some of the event partners include: The Masten Block Club Coalition, the Board of Block Clubs, the MVP’s of Buffalo, BETC (Buffalo Employment Training Center), Buffalo Urban League, Teens in Progress, and Back to Basics.

Following the Garvey Community Day, there will be a Carlton Street Co-Op Fundraiser featuring keynote speaker Uwesha Ayo, Independent Member of the Universal Negro Improvement Association(UNIA), Secretary of the Nubian Exchange Federal Credit Union(NEFCU). All proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward the renovation of the structure at 238 Carlton into a fully functioning Black-owned grocery store.

Time of Garvey Community Day: 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm
