Bus to No Northern Access Pipeline Albany Rally! Deny 401 – Protect Water, Air…

March 27, 2017 @ 6:15 am - 8:15 pm

$10 – $25

Join the rally in Albany! Stop Northern Access Pipeline! Sign up at niagarasierraclub.com or eventbrite link below.

Bus from WNY to Albany:

*6:15am: We will meet at University at Buffalo, Main St. campus, in the Park and Ride lot (across from Tim Horton’s, next to University Station train stop; this will allow us to park our cars there all day).

*6:30am: The bus will leave.

*6:45am: The bus will stop to pick people up at Transit Road Thruway Park and Ride at 6650 Transit Rd., just off I-90 exit 49, Depew, and will leave immediately. (Let us know if this pick up is not convenient – it is possible to change or add a stop but must be a Thruway Park and Ride – perhaps Pembroke exit 48A)

Rally in Albany:

*12 noon: We will be dropped off to gather with others to begin the rally at the DEC building in Albany (that’s 625 Broadway, Albany NY 12233)

We will rally and march from the DEC Building to the State Capitol building (less than half a mile) to rally outside and inside the State Capitol calling for Governor Cuomo and the NY DEC to Deny the 401 Water and Air Permits.

The DEC must decide whether to approve or deny the air and water permits for this project by April 7th. Cuomo ultimately has the power to reject this pipeline. By showing up and making our voices heard, we will influence their decisions.

The proposed Northern Access Pipeline Project is VERY similar to the Constitution Pipeline which was slated for Eastern NY State but was denied a 401 Water Certification due in large part, to all the stream crossings.

We need to let Governor Cuomo and the DEC know that Western NY deserves the same protection. We further need to let Gov. Cuomo know that we expect him to live up to his policies promoting renewable energy, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, cleaning up and protecting our water and his pronouncement in January’s State of the State Address:

Now that New York has built a foundation for the renewable energy system of the future, the State must double down by investing in the fight against dirty fossil fuels and fracked gas from neighboring states to achieve the goals outlined in the Governor’s Clean Energy Standard.”

Any participants are encouraged to contact their legislators ahead of time to se up a meeting in the afternoon while we are in Albany and request their support in denying this pipeline. You can invite them to join us to speak out and for a photo opportunity showing their support.

Bus back from Albany to WNY:

*3:30pm: The bus will leave Albany (pick-up at the State Capitol Building) We will arrive back at UB Park and Ride at about 8:45pm. (with a stop back at the Exit 49 parking in Depew)

We are asking those who can afford to pay $25 for a bus ticket, as excess costs will be covered by non-profits which largely run on donations.

All are welcome for $10! Numbers are what we need most!

If you cannot afford $10 but really want to come, contact Joe, [email protected], about getting your ticket subsidized.

If you have more to give, feel free to donate to help us run this bus, subsidize those who can’t afford, maybe buy us all lunch? 😉 (otherwise we’ll brown bag it, and that’s okay too!)

The type of ticket I want is sold out! What do I do?

Send an email to Joe at [email protected], he’ll get you set up real fast 🙂

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Not at all! Totally family friendly event! (Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.)

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

You can park all day at UB’s Main St. campus Park and Ride. That’s what it’s there for!

What can I bring into the event?

Signs, songs, and good spirit!

When do we eat?

Bus, bus, and bus! Unless we end up having an excess in our budget (don’t count on it, we’re all not-for-profits), we’re brown bagging–or better yet, use a canvass bag and resuables 😉 Bring lunch, bring dinner, bring breakfast, and bring a snack!
