Bhutan, Iceland: Adventures in Learning
September 29, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm
RS Environmental Sanctuary/Cottage; 3449 West River Road, Grand Island, NY 14072. 4-6 program followed by potluck.
Come visit a small country with a “Gross National Happiness Index.” The Buddhist kingdom of Bhutan, at the foot of the Himalayan Mountains, is a constitutional monarchy, never colonized. It remained isolated from most of the world until the mid-20th century. Today tourists and trekkers are encouraged to visit this unique, beautiful, and peaceful country. Experience it through the photos and stories of Diane Evans, retired science teacher and storyteller.
Listen, too, to a tale about the adventures of Evie Swarts in ICELAND this past April. Iceland, the land of fire and ice, is a country of contrasts like no other in the world. It was formed by the interactions of glaciers, volcanoes, and earthquakes, and continues to be altered by them.
Enjoy pictures of black sand beaches dotted with chunks of ancient diamond ice. Imagine relaxing in a lagoon heated by geothermal energy on a 40 degree day or floating on a glacial lake at the receding base of a massive glacier.
Evie is a retired biology teacher having been a secondary science teacher for 34 years, primarily in the Kenton School District.
